HOLLYWOOD
MARCH 2010
The weather was just perfect. No rain!  We did what thousands of tourists do in LA every year.  We
took the Star Line Tour of Hollywood.  The scenery looks different from the top of a double decker
open top bus.  Very cool!

Greg and Neil staffed the latest excursion down to the Eastern Caribbean on the Carnival Liberty.  We
never seem to get tired of this place.  It's just beautiful!  There are so many interesting places to see and
we feel that we could keep coming down here for years and still not see everything.  This time after
Armitage picked us up from Megan's Bay Beach he took us to a farm on top of one of St. Thomas'
beautiful mountains.  The views were just incredible.  The whole place is absolutely  fascinating.  We
look forward to returning again next year.

One of our members made a special request to visit the California State Railway Museum in Old
Town Sacramento.  Since our club member is really into trains Neil arranged a trip up to our state
capitol on AMTRAK'S Coast Starlight.  This also included a 6 mile trip on the Sacramento Southern
Railroad, a steam powered excursion train.  This was supposed to be a once in a lifetime trip but
we are going back again next year.  Maybe we can sign up a few more train fanatics to visit one of
the best train museums in the USA.
Sacramento, California
We traveled by AMTRAK from Los Angeles to San Diego on Friday.  Cameron and Neil
were the tour guides on this one.   We waved at all the drivers stuck on the freeway and
enjoyed the beautiful view of the pacific ocean out of our window.   We ended up at a Jack
in the Box next to our hotel for dinner and then on to beautiful Seaport Village.   On
Saturday we toured Sea World, saw Shamu and petted dolphins.    We spent Sunday
morning on the aircraft carrier Midway and later that day  we rode the rails back up to LA in
stretch out comfort .  Really nice weekend.

OZZFEST
Neil accompanied a group of our metal heads to Ozzfest.  Ozzy held it this year at the San Manuel
Amphitheater in Devore, California.  We were not allowed any video cameras into this one.
Actually anything that was not banned was forbidden.  Security was just like LAX.  We got a few
cell phone images though.  Cell phones have not been banned yet.  Bands like  Motley Crue,
Exodus, Halford, Black Label Society and the man himself Ozzy put on a really good show.  Our
metal heads were in seventh heaven!

Three of our members asked if we could go to San Diego using AMTRAK and learn how to transfer  to the San
Diego Trolley system.  These guys already use the LA County Metro system independently.  They go to Dodger
and Angel games and can get there by themselves.    They have been using AMTRAK from LA's Union Station
out to Anaheim Stadium.  The train station is in the parking lot.  They also travel up to Santa Barbara County via
AMTRAK on a regular basis.    Now PETCO Park and  Qualcomm Stadium are accessible to some of our
members.  Both have trolley stations.   Anyone for a Padres game or maybe a Chargers game!  As these public
transportation systems grow it makes getting around Southern California much easier and much more
accessible.  While we were in San Diego we went on board the Aircraft Carrier Midway located a couple of
blocks from the AMTRAK station and took the bus to the beach.  The flight simulators on board the Midway are
awesome.

HAWAII
Our trip to Hawaii was very relaxing, very beautiful and we met a lot of very nice people.  We saw Pearl
Harbor and learned that Elvis Presley was behind the fund raising for the Arizona Memorial.  Our hotel in
Oahu was very nice and so was our condo on the Island of Maui.  Maui has some of the most beautiful
scenery in the world and we were very impressed.  Every evening everyone goes down to the beach to
watch the sunset.  Those sunsets were just awesome.  We will be back!
